Both paternity test results below show a paternity test that was carried out without the mother’s samples. Many of our paternity tests happen to be carried out without the mother’s sample for a variety of reasons.

We refer to paternity tests done without the mother’s samples as “motherless”. We, do however, always suggest to our clients to send in the mother’s sample for the test as this can help give a more accurate result.The first result you see is an inclusion; in other words that father tested is the biological father of the child (paternity inclusion). In the second case, the alleged father was is not the biological father (exclusion of paternity).

• You will see mention of genetic loci (alleles). Alleles are simply a different or alternative form of a gene. We inherited two forms of a single allele. One is inherited from our mother and the other from our father. Our tests test a total of 21 alleles (we also call these genetic markers).

• One very important locus is what we call the Amelogenin gene. This particular gene is analyzed only to determine the sex of the person being tested. It is an important quality control measure for a paternity test as well as other types of relationship tests we offer.

Certain non-typical sources of DNA, or what we call forensic samples can be more difficult to extract DNA from than others, i.e. sperm from a sheet, finger nails, toothbrushes etc. However, once the human DNA has been isolated and extracted from its source, whether using a forensic sample or a simple oral swab, the DNA test will provide the exact same level of accuracy.  In other words, the accuracy of the result does not depend on the type of DNA sample used.
